Disarmament and International Security Committee

United Nations (from now on referred to as the UN) System consists of six principal organs, one of which is the United Nations General Assembly (from now on referred to as the GA, UNGA). As the primary organ, UNGA includes all 193 UN Members and acts as the central policymaking and representative organ with powers like overseeing the budget, appointing Security Council members, and producing General Assembly Resolutions. The General Assembly itself includes committees, commissions, boards, councils, and more. However, there are only six central committees, and the first one is the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC).UNGA First Committee, shortly known as DISEC, deals with the issues of disarmament and international security. It aims to solve the problems regarding the international security regime, maintain international peace and security, establish principles on armament and disarmament, and promote cooperation among the Member States for the realization of these goals. Furthermore, DISEC works closely with the United Nations Disarmament Commission and the Geneva-based Conference on Disarmament. This time, the agenda item of the DISEC will be “Limiting Armed Drone Proliferation.”
